Dealing with Carnal Things

Romans 8:5-7 "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."

The word "carnal" refers to the physical, worldly, and earthly appetites of mankind. We always look at temporal things first before we even consider their spiritual ramifications.

-Man's carnal nature produces very little spiritually.Romans 7:14 "For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin."
I Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

-Man's carnal mind is at war with God.
Romans 8:7, 8 "The carnal mind is enmity against God; for is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."

-There is a commandment of carnality.
Hebrews 7:16 "Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life."

-There is a list of carnal ordinances that seek to overpower us.
Hebrews 9:10 "Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation."

-The carnal weapons of the flesh cannot defeat the spiritual foes that we battle.
2 Corinthians 10:4, 5 "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God."

-Too many believers try to live as carnal Christians unsucessfully.
1 Corinthians 3:1-4 "And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ."

So how then do we defeat this carnal spirit that seeks to overtake us daily?
Romans 12:1, 2 " I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
