Being Very Serious (Part 42)

Racial division in our nation has always existed. It has been amplified in the past several months more so than since the days of Martin Luther King due to excessive shootings and the killing of so many black men in America. I grew up in the days of integration and I always felt pain for the first black teenagers who endured that transition. I remember the torment and trouble that so many of them faced attending a previously all-white school. What a shame that the spirit of hatred which was alive then is still active today and seeking to cause even more pain and tragedy.

As an adult I have found racism to be much worse in many areas of our nation. Even in places up north, the spirit of racism is greater in some cities than it is here in SC. These are troubling things to admit about our great nation, but sometimes the truth hurts. I am so glad that even though people allow hatred to fill their hearts, God is color blind. He does not look on the outside at the color of a person's skin, but He sees their heart and that's what He goes on.

The misconception of Jesus' skin color and nationality, due to the visualization of paintings many of us were exposed to as children, probably has more to do with our misunderstanding of who He is to all people. He's not a white Jesus or a black Jesus, but He is the Son of God who died for the sins of ALL men. I am not a Scottish-Irish White American or a Black African-American, but I am a born-again Child of the most high God. I am an American citizen, but my name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. It is time for us to realize that God cares about ALL people and we need to do the same regardless of their skin tone or nationality.

We blame the police for racial profiling, but many prominent leaders of all colors have said that in this age of terrorism there is a need for greater caution. None of us like the thought of being pulled over by a blue light or being thought of as a criminal regardless of our color. We've all run into somebody who abuses their authority from time to time, but that doesn't make everybody bad. Most of our policeman are decent individuals who are just doing there job. Does that mean they never make mistakes? No, because I'm sure they do. Does it mean that bad or careless cops who kill someone without good reason should be able to avoid justice? No it doesn't. Does it even mean that there isn’t anything that the police could be doing better? No- I’m a big believer in more police officers using body cameras to film exactly what happens in each situation and getting better training when it comes to dealing with the mentally deficient especially in this day and time.

990 people in the United States in 2015 were killed by police officers. Of those 990 shootings, 730 of them happened while an attack was in progress. 494 of those killed were white and 254 were black. Almost twice as many white as there were black-so just to put those numbers in perspective. When you get a community so hyped up to hate the police that it makes it impossible for the police to do their jobs, it almost forces them to pull back. This leads to huge increases in criminal activity which gets people killed. There were 468 murders in Chicago alone in 2015. When you convince black Americans that the police are all racists and any encounter with them could be fatal, it makes people extremely nervous, fearful and edgy. Nervous, fearful and edgy people may do extremely stupid things like resisting arrest, refusing to listen to the cops or going for a weapon when all they need to do is keep calm and let the cops do their work. This gets people killed.

When you preach so much hatred against the police that you have a sniper shooting cops like in Dallas and people applauding that on Twitter, they’re getting people killed. It's got to stop somewhere and somehow before it goes to far. I really believe the devil wants a race war in America because every nation torn apart by themselves is easier for him to take over. He has tried to tear us up through this spirit of division and even had radical religionists call for more violence and terrorism against white people to even the score. Folks, that doesn't even the score, it only creates more division, destruction, and hatred. This violence has to stop somewhere. Please Lord, let it be with me. Please heal the hatred in our nation and make us one with You. Stop this needless violence and promote peace among us here in America.
