Blessings (Part 11)

Blessings (Part 11)
Blessings cannot come until there is freedom in your life. Please read this information shared by Dr. Ted Roberts in his Conquer series. Although this is a part of his teaching on setting men free from porn addiction, the application applies to every area of our life that is cursed by the enemy. Reverse the curse and be blessed! Here is the article:
"Have you ever wondered why some patterns in your family history seem to be recurring in your own life? Strongholds such as anxiety, poverty, illnesses and addictions to name a few. The Bible refers to these as generational curses, which the church has long believed was purely spiritual. But according to new brain research, this biblical principle is far more scientific than we realize.
The concept of generational curses is presented in Exodus 20:5. In the King James Version it says that God will “visit” the sins of the fathers down to the third and fourth generation. The term “visit” makes more sense in light of this new study which shows that generational curses can, indeed, be scientifically traced back from one generation to another.
Pioneering studies in epigenetics reveals that our life experiences and choices do change us, including our brains, down to the DNA level. And these changes can be passed onto our children and further down the hereditary line. Epigenetics gives insight to how our diets, work environment – even one-off traumatic events – can change the genetic legacy we pass onto our children and grandchildren.
Epigenetics is information that sits above the genome, which controls the programming of DNA, instructing different cells how to express themselves. In an interview from the Conquer Series, a neuropsychologist, Dr. Jess Montgomery explains, “Sensations we put into the brain will use the DNA to change how the cell responds. And those genes are turned ‘off’ or ‘on’ based on what that response is. While the DNA doesn’t change, the expression does.” What’s fascinating about this new study is that it reveals that our DNA is not immutable, which was the former notion, but that environment markedly affects our gene expressions and the ways we function and behave.
This quiet scientific revolution could be a paradigm shift for evolutionary biology, as it pretty much refutes Darwin’s central premise. Neuropsychologist, Dr. Tim Jennings said, “Which is more scientifically accurate – the Bible or Charles Darwin? Well guess what? It’s the Bible. Darwin hypothesized that it was mutation over millions of years that caused finches to have different beaks. Science has actually now proved, it’s epigenetic modification. This is big, because science is now confirming Scripture.”
Epigenetics reveals that not only do we pass along the DNA sequence to our children, but we also pass along the epigenetic instructions to them. In other words, information can be inherited and transmitted through generations. In an experiment on ‘transgenerational epigenetic inheritance’, researchers at Emory University, trained mice to fear a fruity odor by pairing it with a mild electric shock to the foot. Ten days later, the mice were allowed to mate. Incredibly, their pups feared the odor even without having encountered the smell before. But even more fascinating is that the offspring of those pups – the grandchildren – were born with the same specific memory. We see the mice study apply to humans. One example were the attacks of 9/11. Among the thousands of people directly exposed to the attack were 1,700 pregnant women. Some of these women developed symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Their children reacted with high levels of fear and stress around loud noises, unfamiliar people, or new foods. It seems the infants inherited the nightmare that their mothers experienced on that day.
It’s cathartic when you can literally put the concept of generational curses under the microscope. Suddenly your habits and experiences have far greater social implications, because you no longer live life just for yourself but for your descendants too. As Jennings points out, “The choices we make – the foods that we eat, the things that we watch – can affect how the DNA is expressed. When we have kids, we pass on the sequence to them. So if we become addicted to stuff, we can pass along to our children gene instructions that make them more vulnerable to addictions.” So take pornography addiction, for instance, since it’s the fastest growing epidemic in today’s church. According to a recent study, 68 percent of Christian men are addicted to porn. Most likely, they are unaware of the hereditary ramifications of viewing porn. “It doesn’t happen generally with one exposure to pornography. It’s the repetitive volitional exposure to pornography that will cause this type of gene expression change to happen”, explains Jennings.
These staggering statistics make you wonder what implications porn addiction will have on the church’s future. Pastor James Reeves of City On A Hill DFW, who has successfully tackled porn addiction in his church, warns, “We are raising a generation of sex addicts in the church. Young Christian men who are so exposed to pornography. What’s going to happen is as this generation gets married and has children, the spiral of their addiction will get tighter and tighter. It’s going to really sweep through the church like a tsunami wave of destruction of the family. And the church is absolutely not prepared for it.”
Dr. Ted Roberts, a sex addiction therapist and the host of the Conquer Series, said, “Probably the most devastating consequence is that God guarantees you – His Word is very clear: ‘the curse will be visited to the third and fourth generation.’ If you are in sexual bondage or you are struggling with that and don’t get an effective dealing with it, it will be passed on to your kids.”
The good news is that even if epigenetic modifications are passed onto your offspring, they are reversible. In other words, it is possible to break the curse. “You can go either way. we can pass along both positive things in our life and or negative, depending on the choices we make in life”, said Jennings.
In another experiment with mice, the notion of breaking generational curses is clearly demonstrated. Scientists bred mice to have a memory impairment. In short, they were bred to be stupid. Then they took the mice and for two weeks, during their adolescence, the mice were placed in an enriched environment with lots of toys. Not surprisingly, the mice developed better memory despite their bad genes. The enriched environment caused an epigenetic modification, switching off the bad gene. But here’s where it gets interesting: the pups of the mice from the enriched environment were also born with the gene defect, but had the epigenetic modification such that the bad gene was shut off. Instead, they were born with good memory despite their bad genes.
But here’s the million Dollar question: If a Christian is set free from his past after being born-again, why are there so many believers who still see the effects of generational curses in their lives? Could it be because so many of us still live under the law? The law tells us that God’s blessings are conditional, depending on how good we are, which is based on our works, whereas grace tells us that Christ took the curse upon himself on the Cross: Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us, (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’, Galatians 3:13). The law condemns us, but grace gives us the gift of non-condemnation. Once we are gripped by grace, we can truly have the mind of Christ which transforms our behavior and that infuses all our relationships. Suddenly, we are empowered to break the curses, knowing that the blood of Christ covers us. This transformation is physically revealed in the genetic changes in our bodies, but also on the legacy we will be leaving behind.
Having an understanding of epigenetics, we no longer have to be victims of predetermined genetic codes. Spiritually speaking – we don’t have to live under the curse and subject our children to it. Because of the Cross, the generational curses in our family can be broken. Science is merely discovering these powerful biblical truths. Being under grace, we can choose to turn the tide of generational curses to blessings. As Dr. Doug Weiss, a marriage counselor, said, “Don’t think of it as a battle you’re just fighting for yourself. You’re fighting for the very lineage that God gave you. And if you will break this curse, then your sons and your daughters have a better shot and your grandchildren have a better shot. My son’s name is Jubilee, because his dad took the courage to break the curses off of him. I want to invite you to do the very same thing for those you love.”

Blessings (Part 10)

Blessings (Part 10)

According to Deuteronomy 28 obedience leads to blessings and  disobedience to curses. We inherit the propensity to sin through our genes, through example, and through the power of the law of judging.  Yet we are able to break the bond of generational sin from our family and the patterns of destruction because when  Jesus came He broke the bondage of sin when He said “it is finished”.  So, when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, the blood that set us free from sin is the same blood that is appropriated for breaking any generational curses on our life.

Just as the the work of the cross must be appropriated to cleanse us, the appropriation is the same for deliverance from generational curses.  Because Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord, those curses that normally would flow down through the generations can now be placed upon Him and nailed to the cross.  That which we do not accept can be taken to the cross and the cross placed between us and those things that have been passed down from generation to generation.

If we choose not to repent, thereby not letting Jesus take our sin and the consequences of our sin, we condemn ourselves and future generations to reap what we have sown.  So we are to ask for the release of the destruction visited upon us.

Because Jesus wants us free from sin and its curses, He has provided a way of escape.

1 John 3:18 “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”.

We have the benefits of Christ’s death and resurrection and we can pray and believe to have deliverance from these curses.

Here is a list of biblical examples of the benefits that Christ’s death has made available to Christians that  do not become ours unless we pray, believe and act. So remember:

(1) God has established a spiritual law called the law and sin and death in Romans 8:2.

(2) God also provided an escape. Romans 6:23 says, "..for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

(3) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law according to Galatians 3:13, 14.

(4) The precious promises of God contain everything pertaining to life and godliness in 2 Peter 1:3, 4.

Blessings (Part 9)

Blessings (Part 9)
John Eckhardt is overseer of Crusaders Ministries in Chicago, and the author of more than 20 books, including God Still Speaks and Prayers That Activate Blessing (Charisma House), from which this article is adapted. This was published in Charisma Magazine and is well worth the read.
"The subject of blessing and prosperity has become very controversial among those in the church. We want to be blessed and live the abundant life Christ died to give us, yet we don’t want to approach God as if He is a lottery or a slot machine—if you put in the right amount of prayer, praise, worship, faith and good works, out comes your blessing. But for some, that is all they see God as, and they get beside themselves when He doesn’t come through the way they wanted Him to.
Blessing and prosperity are more than money. According to Strong’s Complete Concordance of the Bible, one Hebrew word for prosperity is shalom. We often associate the word shalom with peace, but the peace that Christ went to war for on the cross is a complete, whole kind of peace. Also according to Strong’s, shalom is “completeness, soundness, welfare and peace.” It represents completeness in number and safety and soundness in your physical body. Shalom also covers relationships with God and with people.
God’s thoughts concerning your peace and prosperity are much higher than you could imagine. It is His desire to bless and prosper you, to give you His grace, favor and protection. Favor means “grace”; “that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness”; and “good will, benefit, bounty, reward.” If you look up the Hebrew and Greek definitions of prosperity, many of these words carry over into favor as well.
Favor is goodwill. This is God’s kindness and benevolence given to those who love Him. Favor will release great blessings, including prosperity, health, opportunity and advancement. The Bible records numerous examples of God’s favor upon His people causing them to experience many breakthroughs. Favor is God’s loving-kindness.
Joseph experienced God’s favor and went from prison to palace. God will do the same for you. He can change your circumstances in one day, no matter where you are in your life. This is when the favor of God is on your life.
Job was another man who was blessed and who operated under the full favor and blessing of God. “You have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit” (Job 10:12). Life and favor are gifts of God. We don’t need luck. We need blessings. We need favor. God desires to release new favor on your life. When you have God’s favor and blessing, there is nothing in life that can hold you down.
When you begin to walk in the favor and blessing of the Lord, others will recognize it. The favor and blessing of God on your life is one of the most powerful things you can have.

Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (emphasis added).
Protection was also added to Job. “I broke the fangs of the wicked, and plucked the victim from his teeth” (Job 29:17). When the enemy set out to destroy Job, he had weapons to fight back; then he claimed the exponential spoils of the victory.
God says, “You don’t need money. You need My favor.” You need His shalom—the full measure of peace—to operate in your life. This is your gift from Him if you are His child, if you are in covenant with Him. Just as He did with the Israelites, God loved you and chose you despite who you are and what you have done. You are elected by God. You were chosen before the foundation of the world. It wasn’t because of anything you’ve done. That is His favor!
God talks to the children of Israel in Ezekiel 16:1-14 about how He found them in a rejected state. But when God passed by them, He said, “LIVE!” Then He blessed them and adorned them with jewels. God is saying this same thing to you. Maybe you were thrown away to die and had no chance at living. Maybe no one wanted you. But when God looked upon you, He had mercy on you.
God will not only save you and wash you, but He will also bless you, dress you up, put jewels on you and beautify you. The grace and favor of God on your life will cause you to go into a place of prosperity.
God is ready to release new favor, blessing, prosperity, protection and peace over you. It is His desire to give you good things. Now get ready to receive them.

Blessings (Part 7)

Blessings (Part 7)

A blessing is “the act or words of one that blesses,” or “a thing conducive to happiness or welfare.” In the Bible, there are several words that are usually translated as “blessing” or “bless.”

-The Hebrew word most often translated “bless” is barak, which can mean to praise, congratulate, or salute, and is even used to mean a curse.

a. In Genesis 1:22 God blessed the sea creatures and birds, telling them to be fruitful and multiply in the earth.

b. In Verse 28, God gave the similar blessing to Adam and Eve, adding that they were to exercise dominion over creation.

c. In Genesis 12:1-3 God called Abram to go to the Promised Land and promised to bless him, make his name great, and through him, to bless all the families of the earth. The blessings here are plainly associated with happiness and welfare, both for Abram and others.

d. In Genesis 22:16-18, God again blesses Abram, and adds that blessing is due to his obedience to God's commands.

e. In Genesis 24:60 when Rebekah left her family to become Isaac's wife her family blessed her by saying “may you increase to thousands upon thousands; may your offspring possess the gates of their enemies.”

f. In Genesis 27:28, 29 when Isaac was ready to die, he pronounced this blessing on his son, Jacob: “May God give you of heaven's dew and of earth's richness-an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.”

Another Hebrew word for blessing is esher, which is also translated as happiness.

Job 5:17 declares “Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.”

This blessing is connected to the knowledge that God is at work to direct us in the right path. God's chastisement is actually a display of His love for us, like a parent who disciplines a child who plays in the middle of the street.

Psalm 1:1-3 carries that theme further when it states, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”

The book of Psalms is full of references to this kind of happy blessing for those who love and fear the Lord God.  I want to be like a tree planted by the water.

Blessings (Part 8)

Blessings (Part 8)

In the New Testament, there are two primary Greek words translated as “blessing.”

-Makarios carries the meaning of happiness that I wrote about yesterday. The Beatitudes of Matthew 5 and Luke 6 describe the happy state of those who find their purpose and fulfillment in God. As in the Psalms, the best life is available for those who love and fear God and order their lives according to His Word.

-Romans 4:6-8 NKJV "...just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven and whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin."

These verses tie this blessing to those whose sins are forgiven, for they know the relationship to God has been restored.

The second word, Eulogeo, focuses more on good words or the good report that others give of someone and also describes the blessing that we say over our food according to Matthew 26:26. This word is where we get our English word “eulogy,” in which we speak well of one who has passed away.

-Ephesians 1:3 blesses God for all the blessings that He gives us in Christ.

-1 Peter 3:9 instructs us to bless those who mistreat us, because we were called to receive a blessing from God.

We see that a blessing is a statement of good will and happiness that is said about another, as well as the condition that fulfills those good words. God's original design in creation was for His creation, including mankind, to experience prosperity, peace, and fulfillment, but that design was ruined when sin entered the world. Statements of blessing are a wish for God to restore His favor on others or a declaration of His inherent goodness.

The ultimate blessing that God has given is the new life and forgiveness that comes through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. The material blessings we enjoy from day to day are temporary, but the spiritual blessings available to us in Christ encompass time and eternity, as well as material and immaterial things. As the Psalmist said in Psalm 146:5: “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God.”

Blessings (Part 6)

Blessings (Part 6)

Deuteronomy 7:13 “He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.

God has made you a visionary and by faith He wants to see results, breakthroughs, and manifestations in your life! Do you believe that?

Yes, God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. It’s your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. Declare the will of God on the earth as it is in heaven and see it come to pass!

Rise up in the authority of whose you are in Christ Jesus and exercise that authority. You are the child of the most high God adopted through Jesus Christ. What Jesus did on earth, you are called to do. If you be a blessing, God will give you success in all you set your hands to do!

You can be like a tree planted by the water with roots that go deep in God and His Word. Whatever happens in this world, God always has blessings for you. He will show you the things you do not know and form righteous declarations in your mouth to produce those blessings.

Supernaturally you will speak to the atmosphere and it will change around you. You are blessed because you trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. You know you are created strong in Him to rule in every sphere of authority.  The power of God’s word in your mouth will cause your breakthrough. You will have the anointing to leap over the mountain that has been deceiving and intimidating you, declare that the blockade that has stopped you from moving forward is removed, and be blessed with a straight path to walk into your future with blessing on top of blessing.

So renew your foundations in Christ and God will build you up. God is releasing His power to create a power shift in and through you. The flood gates of heaven have opened up for you. Rebuke the negative reports over your finances, life and expectations and refuse to be disheartened or live in fear.

One last thing-God causes things to be released so you can move in and through the gates of blessings set before you. Will you be bold enough to enter in?

Blessings (Part 4)

Blessings (Part 4)

There is tremendous power in the words you speak. What you say today creates your tomorrow. If you want a healthy and prosperous future, then you need to use wisdom and speak words that bring blessings. Your future depends on it

To declare blessings means:

-To make known formally or officially

-To state emphatically or authoritatively; affirm.

-To reveal or make manifest; show.

God spoke all things into existence. Since you are created in His image He has given you the authority and the power to declare blessings over your own life. You might be declaring over your life without even knowing it. Have you ever said, “I hate my life,” or “My life sucks,” or “I’m so fat and ugly.” These are negative declarations that will bring negative results into your life. I know, I’ve been there. I’ve learned that what I say or what I think brings what I am focusing on into my life. So, now I desire to declare only positive words over my life. I am beginning to see the changes!

Romans 10:17 NKJV “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Scripture is a powerful tool we should use to declare over our lives.

Pray Psalm 91 your life. Substitute “you or your” with “I, me, and my,” as follows:

Psalm 91 NLT

"Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue me from every trap and protect me from deadly disease. He will cover me with his feathers. He will shelter me with his wings. His faithful promises are my armor and protection. I will not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. I will not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at my side, though ten thousand are dying around me, these evils will not touch me. Just open my eyes, and I will see how the wicked are punished. If I make the LORD my refuge, if I make the Most High my shelter, no evil will conquer me; no plague will come near my home. For he will order his angels to protect me wherever I go. They will hold me up with their hands so I won’t even hurt my foot on a stone. I will trample upon lions and cobras; I will crush fierce lions and serpents under my feet! The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation."

Change your direction today. You blessing could just be words away!
