WHY PRAY FOR CHILDREN

Deuteronomy 6:6, 7 "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

1-Because they are a special gift from God to you.
Psalms 127:3 “Children are a heritage from the Lord”

“A heritage is something received because you have a special relationship to the giver.” -Webster

2-Because their whole life is before them.
Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

3-That they may be saved.

2 Timothy 3:15 “That from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures which are able to make thee wise unto salvation."

4-That they grow and serve the Lord.

Deuteronomy 31:12“Gather the children . . . that they may hear . . . learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law.”

5- That they may have a hedge of protection around them.

Job 1:10 “Hast not Thou (God) put a hedge about him?”

6- Because of your natural love that wants to give them the best of everything.

7-That they might develop good lifelong habits.

2 Timothy 3:14, 15 “Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned . . . that from a child thou hast known."

8- That they may develop good decision-making habits.

Proverbs 2:1, 9, LB  “Every young man who listens to me and obeys my instructions . . . He shows how to distinguish right from wrong, how to find the right decision every time”

9-That they will make good friends.
Proverbs 5:1,3-4, LB “Listen to me, my son! I know what I am saying; listen . . . the lips of a prostitute are as sweet as honey . . . but afterwards only a bitter conscience is left to you.”

Proverbs 13:20 LB “Be with wise men and become wise. Be with evil men and become evil.”

10-That they will extend your life and testimony.
Proverbs 15:20 LB “A sensible son gladdens his father.”

Proverbs 17:25 “A foolish son is a grief to his father.”

11-That they may make your life peaceful and prosperous.
Proverbs 19:27 ELT “Teach your child discipline while there is hope; if you don’t, you will ruin their lives forever.”

Proverbs 23:15 LB “My child, how I will rejoice if you become a man of common sense. Yes, my heart will thrill to your thoughtful, wise words.”

12-That they may follow the example of Jesus.
Luke 2:52 ELT “Jesus grew tall and wise, and in His love for God and men.”
