Making Changes (Part 3)

Making Changes (Part 3)

Luke 9:23 NKJV "Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."

How do you stick to a new routine  The rules here are fairly simple, but if you stick to them diligently, because they’re basically infallible.  These three guidelines are critical, and they have to do with making your routines manageable. Start with one positive change, make it small, and maintain it for at least sixty days until it becomes a regular routine.
1 Corinthians 15:31 NKJV "I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily."
(1)Focus on one and only one positive change at a time.

You can break this rule, and sadly most people do, but don’t be surprised if you fail because of it.  If you try to do too much at one time, nothing will get done right.  So implement one positive change, and make it a routine for a month before considering adding to it or starting a second.  Only build upon your routine if you are successful. Otherwise stay with it until it feels like second nature.

(2)Keep your routine change small to start.

You’ve probably heard this before, but again, most people don’t do it.  Start with a daily routine that lasts ten minutes or less.  If you feel strong resistance and fail at ten minutes, drop it to five or even three minutes, and then do it for a full month before adding more time.

(3) Remember that establishing a new behavior takes time.

You need sixty days for a new behavior to become a part of your life.  By then you can  identify with it.  Your perspective shift is enormously important.  You start to see the positive change you’ve implemented in your life, and you feel rewarded as you watch it shape you into a better and wiser person.

Isaiah 58:2 NKJV "Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God."
