Fighting Fire With Love

Jude 21-23 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh."

Pardon my grammar, but it ain't easy loving some people, especially the ones that want to do their own thing and live by their own rules rather than the Word of God. How many pastors have to pray double time to love those who despitefully use them over and over again. You can have as many man-made rules as you want to and they will be broken, but God's rules never change. They are always one and the same.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." He also said in Matthew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." If it was fundamentally wrong 100 years ago based on the Bible, it's still wrong today. Funny how so many pulpits are filled with men-pleasers rather then word-preachers today. You will never please everybody, so it's much better to preach the truth and please God regardless.

Recently someone called my attention to an article someone had written that inferred blame for something against a pastor I know. I laughed at the words that I read even though many people apparently lent a sympathetic ear to the writer. I had to deal with this individual more than once because of a hypocritical lifestyle and a desire to minister while living in Biblical sin. Although my name wasn't called in the article the reference to some of the material used was quite different than the truth. I pray that the family involved has truly changed, but by what I read I see nothing but falsehood and hypocrisy.

That's why the words in Jude are very powerful. We all come up against people who don't live right and try to blame others for their failures. That's why we must KEEP OURSELVES in the LOVE OF CHRIST! Flesh will only breed hatred, disgust, and revenge against those who trespass against us or tell lies about us. I am not talking about denominational love, but the true love of God. That's the key ingredient to have for saving sinners and losers with compassion, but it's also the key ingredient to have when pulling people who mistreat you out of the fire. You despise their spotted garment, but you reach down as far as you can to help them in spite of the hurt and pain they caused you.

The fleshly side says, "LET THEM BURN!", but the spiritual man says, " I FORGIVE!" and does what he can to restore. Listen, I know some people will never change. Jesus could be their pastor and they would still do the same thing over and over. Yet, if by chance, we can save one out of the fire, it will be worth it all. So as hard as it is to admit it, you fight fire with the love of God. That's the only way you will win in this battle and you just might be the difference in heaven or hell for someone who caused you great pain.
