Change Your Memories

Philippians 2:5 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus..."

Cognitive psychologist, Elizabeth Loftus, has shown that memories can be changed and even false memories can be implanted in people. What this means is that you can literally go back in time and change your memories simply by repeatedly picturing the event while anchored into a positive state, so the meaning of the memory will become a positive one.

We all have good and bad memories of our past. I remember Christmas as a boy with all my family sharing the joy of the season. I remember Becky's first holiday with our family and Shane's as well. I remember the joy of becoming a grandparent, not once but five times. I also remember the loss of my loved ones and precious members I've served as pastor. Dealing with junk also in churches I've loved is not a pleasant memory. In fact sometimes the bad times overshadow the good times and steal the joy from my soul over the victories I saw more than chaos.

The wise man wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:14-1 "I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him. That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; And God requires an account of what is past."

Go back in time to all those memories that have robbed you of your confidence and create new meanings to them. God changed your future by removing your past. Don't let those people who wronged you, churches that offended you, or a defeated devil steal your joy or faith. Everything had a purpose and God had a plan. It might have been to stir you or to get your attention, but it wasn't meant to scar your present or your future.

Bad memories can be changed by dwelling on the good things in your life. Refuse to let those things that attached themselves to you through difficulty and trials continue to dominate your life. If God brought you through one thing, He will bring you through all things.
