Invasion! (Part 3)
Israel was called to be separate from the evil nations around them, just as believers must not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. There must not be any agreement of any kind-spiritual, business, or relational--with unbelievers according to the Word of God. Compromise tend to desensitize the spirit-man until he sees no wrong.
The Apostle Paul warned in 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 NAS:
"Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord, “and do not touch what is unclean.”
This does not only apply to marriage, but to all relationships. You should not be close friends with unbelievers. You should not form business partnerships with them. When you do, you are setting yourself up for discord and disharmony.
Friendship with the world is “enmity against God” according to James 4:4. Yes, Jesus was a "friend to sinners", but He did not engage in any of their sinful activities. He was a friend in the sense He sought to save them by His grace and glory. The moment you enter into a binding relationship with unbelievers you become an enemy of God. That sounds harsh, but it is the Word of God.
God does not want you to make unholy alliances with the world or any type of agreement that links you together with them, because you are a citizen of a different kingdom.
Christ’s message to lukewarm church members with one foot in the world and one foot in the Church, is simple:
Revelation 3:18 "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment that thou mayest be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear…"
There can be no truce with Satan. No compromise with sin. Be alert for Satan’s deceptions. Do not isolate yourself from unbelievers, for you must have contact with them in order to share the gospel. The point is, do not make any alliances with unbelievers or spiritual Gibeonites who can lead you astray.
